About Sharma Beach and its history
A Red Sea beach in the Tabuk region.
Sharma Beach is a stretch of Red Sea coast in the Tabuk Region of north-western Saudi Arabia. It lies north of the town of Duba, near the small settlement of Sharma. The beach is known for its pale sand and clear water in graded shades of blue, set against the bare mountains that come close to the shore in this part of the country.
For a long time Sharma was a quiet coastal community whose people depended on fishing, and its beach was a place where residents of the Tabuk region came during holidays to camp and swim. In recent years the area has come within the boundaries of the NEOM development project. This has given the surrounding coast new importance and has changed how some parts of it can be reached.
Visitors find shallow water suitable for swimming, places for snorkelling over the reefs and open space for watching the sun set over the sea. The beach is typical of the Tabuk coastline, which has remained free of dense building and where desert and mountains meet the sea directly.
