About King Fahd Park, Dammam and its history
A large public park in Dammam.
King Fahd Park is a large public park in Dammam, the capital of Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, and is regarded as one of the biggest public gardens in the region. It lies in the southern part of the city, close to the main roads that link Dammam with Dhahran and Khobar, which makes it easy to reach from all three neighbouring cities.
The park was created by the municipal authorities in the later decades of the twentieth century as part of Dammam's urban expansion, and was named after King Fahd bin Abdulaziz. It answered the need of a fast-growing coastal city with a hot climate for a substantial green space, and it has undergone development and renovation work in later years.
The grounds consist of broad lawns dotted with palms and shade trees, artificial lakes, fountains and walking paths, along with children's playgrounds, an amusement ride area and kiosks selling food and drinks. Families visit mainly in the evenings, at weekends and on public holidays. The park is one of the principal open spaces available to residents of the Dammam metropolitan area.
